ABOUT
Medicine that looks at the whole picture
I am a medical doctor with over 20 years of clinical experience, specialising in evidence-based lifestyle medicine and root-cause approaches to health through nutrition, gut health, behaviour change, supplementation, and personalised therapeutic programmes.
I began my medical career within Malaysia's public healthcare system, completing clinical training across Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology before continuing as a Medical Officer at Hospital Kuala Lumpur — one of the country's leading tertiary referral centres. During this time, I also contributed briefly to a Ministry of Health clinical team focused on evidence review and healthcare standards, which strengthened my grounding in evidence-based practice and clinical medicine.
My professional journey later took me to the United States, where I obtained my ECFMG certification while deepening my exposure to international healthcare systems and evidence-based medicine. While living in Buffalo, New York, I gained a broader perspective on chronic disease, preventive care, and the growing importance of lifestyle-related health interventions.
Later, during my years in New Zealand, my interests expanded beyond conventional healthcare into sustainability, food systems, and the relationship between soil health, nutrition, and human wellbeing. Living close to nature, learning permaculture principles, and cultivating a backyard food forest reinforced my belief that health often begins long before disease develops — in the quality of our food, environment, sleep, movement, stress resilience, and daily habits.
These experiences deepened my understanding of the gut microbiome and the growing body of research connecting gut health with immunity, metabolism, inflammation, mood, and overall wellbeing. I increasingly came to view the gut as an important biological interface between the external environment and human health — much like healthy soil forms the foundation of a thriving ecosystem.
Since 2013, I have independently advocated the pillars of lifestyle medicine in my clinical work and patient education. In 2025, I became a Diplomate of the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine (IBLM), one of the highest international certifications in the field.
Today, back in Malaysia, my work focuses on evidence-based lifestyle medicine approaches that support the body's natural capacity for healing and resilience through wholesome whole-food nutrition, behaviour change, restorative sleep, movement, stress management, metabolic health optimisation, and sustainable lifestyle practices that can realistically be integrated into everyday life.
Where appropriate, I also explore science-based non-pharmacological and integrative therapeutic strategies alongside conventional medical care, with the aim of reducing disease burden, improving quality of life, and supporting long-term wellbeing through personalised, patient-centred care.
My approach remains medically grounded, compassionate, and focused on helping individuals create meaningful, sustainable changes that support both personal health and long-term wellbeing.

MY APPROACH
A Clinical Perspective on Holistic Health
My journey, spanning public health in Malaysia, international healthcare in the US, and sustainable living in New Zealand, shaped a comprehensive understanding of medicine. I combine clinical rigor with a deep appreciation for how lifestyle, environment, and personalized care impact well-being.
This background drives my focus on evidence-based lifestyle medicine. I became a Diplomate of the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine (IBLM) in 2025, emphasizing sustainable practices, metabolic health, and integrative strategies to foster healing and resilience.

SUPPLEMENTATION
Why I recommend supplements
Modern food systems — depleted soils, pesticide exposure, over-farming, and heavily processed supply chains — mean that diet alone is often insufficient to meet optimal nutritional needs.
This is not opinion; it is a documented shift in food nutritional density over the past 50 years. As part of my clinical programmes, I recommend targeted, evidence-based supplementation to augment — not replace — dietary and lifestyle interventions. I work with pharmaceutical-grade and clinically validated products, and I have no interest in recommending anything I don't believe in clinically.
Areas of supplementation I work with:
Gut Microbiome Support
Pre & probiotics for digestive balance and immune function.
Functional Mushrooms
Ganoderma, Cordyceps, Tiger Milk Mushroom — clinically validated adaptogens.
Deer Velvet & Growth Factors
Herbal adaptogens and metabolic support compounds.
Immune Modulators & Cellular Nutrition
Targeted support for immunity, resilience, and cellular health.
Medicinal Herbs & Traditional Remedies
Time-honoured cures from the past that modern medicine has often overlooked - revisited through a clinical lens.
A CLINICAL PERSPECTIVE
In today's world, food alone is rarely enough
I used to believe a balanced diet was sufficient — and I said so for years. Then the evidence changed my mind.
Soil
Decades of intensive monoculture have stripped topsoil of mineral and microbial richness. Studies comparing produce today versus 50 years ago show consistent declines in magnesium, zinc, iron, and B vitamins — sometimes by 40% or more. You can eat all the right foods and still run clinically deficient.
Harvest - Picked early, shipped far
Geofarming and global distribution mean most produce is harvested before peak ripeness to survive transit. Nutrient levels continue declining during transport and cold storage. By the time it reaches your plate, the window of maximum nutritional value has long closed. This is the norm, not the exception
Pesticides - Roundup-ready crops & glyphosate
Glyphosate-tolerant seeds are engineered to survive herbicide application — meaning the herbicide accumulates in the plant rather than breaking down. Glyphosate disrupts the gut microbiome, interferes with mineral chelation, acts as a potential endocrine disruptor, and has been linked to cellular DNA damage in published studies.
IDEAL
Permaculture: the gold standard
Produce grown through permaculture principles — living biodiverse soil, no synthetic inputs, seasonal harvesting — is as close to ancestrally dense nutrition as we can currently achieve. If you have consistent access to it, prioritise it. For most of us, smart supplementation bridges what the modern food system has quietly taken away.
"The goal isn't to replace real food. It's to restore what the system has quietly taken away from it."
— DR. EMIRA PERVEEN, LIFESTYLE MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
This is why supplementation comes up in nearly every consultation I hold — not as an upsell, but as a medically grounded response to a measurably changed food environment. The soil data is there. The harvest research is there. The glyphosate studies are there. And after two decades of clinical practice, I've seen the difference the right protocol makes in real patients.

"I had been struggling with chronic oral candida that had stopped responding to antifungal treatment. As a pharmacist, I know enough to be sceptical — but I followed Dr. Emira's clinical guidance on a targeted prebiotic protocol. Within the first week I noticed a difference, and by the second week I was waking up without pain for the first time in a long time. My digestion improved too. The results speak for themselves."

COMMON QUESTIONS
FAQ
Is this a replacement for my regular doctor?
No. Lifestyle medicine consultations complement your existing medical care — they don't replace it. I work alongside your primary care team, not instead of them.
What should I bring to the consultation?
Recent blood results if you have them, a brief health history, and your main health concerns. You'll complete an intake form before the session so we make the most of our time together.
Will you recommend supplements in every consultation?
Only where clinically appropriate. Supplementation is one tool in the programme — I'll be transparent about what I recommend, why, and what the evidence says.
Are consultations available internationally?
Yes — all consultations are conducted via Google Meet and are open to patients worldwide.
How do I pay?
Payment is processed securely via Stripe at the time of booking. You'll receive a confirmation with your intake form link and Google Meet details automatically.
